Dear Friends of the JVI,
In this newsletter, you will find reports on a newly established course and a revamped one, both dealing with fiscal matters. The new IMF course focused on Strengthening Medium-Term Budgeting of Public Investment, in a context where many JVI countries prioritize infrastructure development to drive growth and tackle climate change. The revamped Sound Fiscal Institutions, a joint undertaking of the Austrian Ministry of Finance, IMF, and JVI, focused on how fiscal institutions can improve the quality of macroeconomic management and contribute to economic and financial stability. In the context of this course, an open lecture discussed the Greening of the European Union’s Fiscal Rules. A recent webinar discussed Climate Change Mitigation and Policy Spillovers in the European Union’s Immediate Neighborhood. We had another high-level visitor in March. Ceyla Pazarbasioglu, Director of the IMF’s Strategy, Policy, and Review Department, met with JVI staff and provided an overview of short- and medium-term challenges facing the world economy and what the IMF recommends to its membership to respond to these challenges. Ms. Pazarbasioglu and staff discussed how training delivered at the JVI contributes to this response by building capacity in critical areas. Last but not least, please read about Elene Koridze’s experience at the JVI, as she is about the return to her native Georgia!
If you have any questions, comments, or feedback of any kind, please write us a note at jvi@jvi.org. Many thanks to Rilind Kabashi, our Editor, Maša Valenko, and all the contributors to this Newsletter.
