Markus Eller joined the JVI as a Senior Economist in February 2022, after previously being Principal Economist in the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB, the central bank of the Republic of Austria) where he is currently on leave. In this role he published on issues related to fiscal policy, capital flows and macrofinancial stability in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, also spending research visits at the IMF in 2013 and the Bank of Finland in 2010. Before joining the OeNB in 2008, Markus worked at the New Economic School in Moscow and at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Markus holds a Ph.D. and a master’s in economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business and a postgraduate diploma in economics from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna. He speaks German, English, Italian, and Russian.
