Maximilian Fandl joined the JVI as a Senior Economist in September 2022, after previously being a Senior Financial Stability Expert at the European Central Bank (ECB). Max started his career in the private banking sector and joined the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) in 2009, focusing on assessing financial stability risks, monitoring of Central, Eastern and Southeastern European financial markets, and stress testing. In 2015 Max joined the ECB, where he was closely involved in the establishment of the ECB’s macroprudential policy function, the ECB’s work on non-performing loans (NPLs) and crisis management, including as Head of the ECB’s financial sector team for Greece during the financial assistance program of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). Max is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU Wien). He also has master’s degrees in business administration from WU Wien and in economics from the University of Vienna.
