Assessing and Managing the International Dimensions of Green Development

GD

This training program will explore priority questions raised by different countries in the ECA region regarding green development, connecting to green supply chains, promoting green industries and strategic financing interventions. Countries in Europe and Central Asia have all adopted ambitious commitments to decarbonize their economies and Finance Ministries will face significant challenges in managing climate-related fiscal and financial risks, supporting structural, institutional, and regulatory reforms, and designing climate mitigation and adaptation policies to ensure that public investments are productive and unlock billions in potential private climate finance. The climate transition also creates opportunities to accelerate much-needed economic diversification, green innovation, and modernization in countries across the region. This transition can be catalyzed by the international environment through for instance the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which creates market incentives for countries in the region to accelerate economic change. This training will explore these issues and equip Finance Ministry officials with the concepts, analytical tools and models, and narratives to navigate the emerging international environment for green development.
