TARGET AUDIENCE | Mid-level officials in central banks from different business functions, including monetary policy, market operations, payment systems, statistics, financial stability and banking supervision, who are familiar with the use of artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT and have at the minimum 5 years of work experience in central banking.
COURSE OVERVIEW | This course is designed to provide central bankers with a comprehensive understanding of how AI can be applied in monetary policy, financial regulation and other central bank functions as well as the implications of AI adoption by economic agents on the respective central bank functions. Each session should ideally blend lectures, discussions, and practical exercises, such as demonstrating example prompts, to allow for peer exchange and to maximize learning. Additionally, incorporating guest speakers from renowned institutions (e.g. large banks using AI) can provide real-world insights and enhance the credibility of the course.
The course is envisaged as a collaboration between the JVI and the ECB as an early adopter of AI among major central banks. The course would also involve guest speakers from the IMF (ITD and MCM), BIS, OeNB and a large Austrian bank to provide real-world insights into AI use by various institutions. The majority of sessions is envisaged to take place in person in Vienna.
